What Defines A Good Supplier?
We usually think of factors like competitive price, good quality and reliable supply.....However, a recent experience has given me a new perspective on this.

Last month, we procured a batch of goods for a client. Because the order was urgent and we needed to meet a shipping deadline, we initially planned to ship the goods directly from the factory to the freight forwarder's warehouse for loading. As the shipment was delayed for various reasons, So the goods sent to our own warehouse. Upon inspection, we discovered that the supplier's logo was printed on every single package, large and small. Thank goodness the goods hadn't been shipped yet; we immediately measured the packaging dimensions and sourced replacements. It took us a full week to repack everything. Just when we thought the job was done, we found discrepancies in the quantities: some products were missing accessories, while others were defective or failed to meet specifications.then we had to inventory the products and accessories and start the process of sourcing and repacking all over again.
I shudder to think what would have happened if the client had received the goods in the original packaging. In China, we can easily source various packaging materials and accessories and quickly swap them out, but the client might not be able to find such supplies locally—and labor costs there are very high. If they couldn't source the materials, they would have been forced to sell the products bearing the supplier's logo.
If the customer is an Amazon seller and ships goods to Amazon warehouses directly, and the products suffer from quality issues—rather than packaging defects—the client could end up facing a flood of refunds, negative reviews, and complaints about "item not as described," all without even realizing there was a problem.
Fortunately, we identified and resolved the issue in time. I believe a good supplier should provide peace of mind to their clients. Moving forward, we will require all products to undergo quality inspections at our warehouse before shipment. We will also ask clients to allow sufficient lead time when placing orders to prevent rushed schedules from compromising product quality or causing other unforeseen issues that could disrupt shipping.
What do you think the qualities of a good supplier to be? Feel free to share your thoughts.
